Côr Meibion Dyffryn Aman (The Amman Valley Male Voice Choir) was established in 1990 by a group of friends who enjoyed singing together and thought it was about time that there should be a male voice choir in the area. The current membership of 45 choristers is drawn from the many towns and villages of the Amman Valley.

The choir has performed in over 270 concerts at venues all over the Britain and has travelled to Ireland, France, the Netherlands and, most recently, Belgium to sing. Over the years we have helped to raise many thousands of pounds for worthy causes.

Our repertoire is extensive and varied ranging from operatic choruses to the pop songs of the 21st Century. We produced our first CD a few years ago and we will return to the recording studio in the Autumn so that we can bring out a new CD to mark our 20th anniversary as a choir in 2010.

The Amman Valley is located in the county of Carmarthenshire in South West Wales. The area was dominated by coal mines and heavy industry for over a century but by today the mining industry has all but disappeared. Whilst our fathers and grand fathers would once have been coal miners, our choristers are drawn from all walks of life. Welsh is spoken by the majority of people in the Amman Valley and this is reflected within the choir. We sing in both English and Welsh and have even been known to sing in German and French.

The choir’s musical director from the start has been Ian Llewelyn. Ian studied music at the University of Wales Aberystwyth, graduating in 1982. He has worked in local government since 1983. He has conducted several choirs over the years and helped to set up Côr Meibion Dyffryn Aman in 1990.
